EIDOLONS

EIDOLONS is a video game project with deliberately retro graphics, evoking the early days of 3D consoles — more specifically, the era of the Sega Saturn and the original PlayStation (PSX).

Developed with the Unity engine, EIDOLONS invites players to search for mysterious entities scattered across the surface of a lunar-like body. But then... what celestial body are we really on?

The Eidolons take on strange and varied forms: a bust of Gagarin, a giant ear, a frozen alien, a recumbent figure, a colossal arm… Together, they form a kind of rebus, a cryptic message. Are they fragments of a dream? Abandoned projects? Workshop phantoms dredged up from the depths of digital memory? These 3D models share a disquieting trait: they are graphically unstable. As you approach them, their vertices quiver, tremble, glitch.

This visual instability also affects the original soundtrack — Sohoria, composed by Zillian Robin — as if each Eidolon, by its mere presence, disturbs the very fabric of reality. Each encounter with an Eidolon reveals a brief, cryptic text. These fragments — nearly incomprehensible — were collected by the artist from online forums discussing Eidolons… in other video games: Lost Eidolons, World of Warcraft, Warframe...

EIDOLONS unfolds as a walking simulator, with a strange and haunting atmosphere. The experience can become disorienting, even difficult, if one loses their way in this lunar expanse. The contrast is striking: on one hand, the trembling, obsolete visuals; on the other, a sophisticated and finely-crafted soundscape, carried by the crystalline voice-over of singer Adah Dylan.
